This is one of the most colourful days on the calendar — even though it is supposed have taken place on the second of January. Be it as it may, the Cape Town Minstrel Festival took to the streets of the Mother City and invaded the atmosphere with their joyful beat and bright outfits. Parked along the sidewalks, Capetonians had been waiting in anticipation, taking their place to secure their chance to see young and old taking part in the parade. There was quite the uproar leading up to the event, mostly because of the fact that it was taking place on the seventeenth, about two weeks after the date it was meant to be held. Along with my best friend, I headed down to join in the festivities, it would be my very first time. Upon arriving it was clear to see that seeing would not be the easiest thing — barricades held us back, and the swarm of people excitedly awaiting the start of the day. For some or other reason, today was not my day — at least as far as photography went. Hours later, while flipping through those I had taken, I was actually shocked. All the colour seeped out of it for me and I wanted to be left with nothing but a black and white photograph — my favourite kind. I manage to selvage one, one image that I thought: okay, I will use this picture for my photo of the day. Yet, I was left with a conundrum — what to write? When the colour is extracted from my life — you know, those days that just gets too much, those days that you feel like your world is falling apart around you — my saving grace is always music. So, how can I bring the two together? Black and white on the the one end, and then music, almost as if in the middle. What’s in the middle of black and white? A million shades of grey, or perhaps just fifty?

When the very first trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey was released, we all held our breath, our hearts raced and flesh turned cold — shortly followed of course by us hitting the repeat button on Youtube. What got me most of all, and what I am convinced made it one of the best trailers I have ever seen, is the music — that reconstructed Beyoncé song that is so perfect it is actually frighting! Ever since I have been watching iTunes like a hawk, searching the internet and desperately hoping for the single to be released or leaked somewhere, anywhere! I had to settle for a version by Kadebostany — not bad, but not Queen Bey! Why were they doing this to me, why for the love of Christian Grey, were they depriving me (naturally only me, not like the rest of the world wanted it or anything) of this epic soundtrack hit! Simply days ago, I was (yet again) on iTunes, typing that oh-so-popular name into the search bar — nothing. Then it happened — not what I had hoped for, but closer — they finally released a song off the soundtrack: Ellie Goulding performing Love Me Like You Do. Since then the song has pretty much been on repeat every day — I can’t get enough. This morning I discovered another one had been released this week, admittedly I missed that one. Earned It, by The Weeknd. This soundtrack is simply blowing me away (pause for pun reaction!) Every single song we have heard so far, including the new version of Haunted, also by Beyoncé, fits in so unbelievably perfect with the story!

I don’t know who of you have read the books — probably more than would admit it. I will say that I have only come as far as finishing the first one. I don’t know, and I honestly mean that, I have NO idea, how I got so excited about this film! You see, the book didn’t blow me away (again, oh my…the puns) it was very average, really. It is beyond easy reading, but then again, take it from who it comes — this woman, now millionaire — was really nothing more than an avid Twilight fan, obsessed with Bella and Edward — much like many of you were…come one, don’t deny it! I am no lit genius, but even I was capable of seeing that this was nothing more than a bunch of erotic moment strung together with most ‘oh my’s’ and ‘Miss Steele’s!’ Other than that, to be quite frank, I was rather irritated for a large part of the book. Why would any sane girl do this? I was so satisfied by the end of the book (pun not intended) that it played out the way it did. I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t read it and are eagerly awaiting the soon to be blockbuster hit cinemas on Valentines Day — which I swear is a very, VERY, well thought out plan orchestrated by Karex, Durex, and sex toy shops world wide!

Another little pleasure (again, no, absolutely not it that way) was the reaction to the trailer videos posted on YouTube! I died! I have literally never laughed so hard in my life. This film is so ridiculously huge and the expectations is so beyond large that it makes me stand back in admiration. I have no idea how they are going to please viewers (guys, I swear…), because from the moment Christian Grey steps onto that silver screen, females everywhere will be watching with gawking eyes! I don’t know if the book would ever really be able to be portrayed completely honestly on screen, we’ll see, but I doubt it. Thankfully the music (so far) has succeeded my expectations by a 110%!

You may ask me: how on Earth does this have anything to do with the picture of today, other than the black and white thing? Have you seen the expression on that little boy’s face? Priceless! Put it in this context: boy be like….
