The choice had to be made. There were two options, both very strong competitors, but I was slightly rooting more for the one. Bzzz. What was going to happen, which one would be chosen. Bzzz. I came back to consciousness. No! As I slowly began opening my eyes I realised that I would never find out the outcome of my dream. I lifted my phone and the bright light sliced through the wee hours of the morning. It was just before 4am, and I was itching like hell. All around me I could hear them, too many to identify. It had been one of those very warm nights out and I opened the windows — mistake! I switched on a light, closed the windows, and started the midnight hunt — the kill. They had bene collecting blood for hours, now it was my turn. Why, why I plead to you, do mosquitos exist?

What is in the name? The word; mosquito, is constructed out of ‘mosca’ and diminutive ‘ito’, which is Spanish or Portuguese for ‘little fly.” Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? If there is one thing on this living Earth that is more irritating than a mosquito, then it's a fly!

But, I don’t want to know the history of a mosquito, I don’t want to know how they are born or how long they live, I just want to know why, why do they exist?

These pestering, flesh biting, blood sucking, rodents, have been around for about 170 million years, so they are clearly having a ball of a time and not creating any sort of plan to become instinct. I don’t understand — Rhino’s get killed for they horns, thousands of them to the point where we start campaigns and are left with so little that they are under better protection that the boys from One Direction. Why, I beg of you, couldn’t the mosquito have some small little compound which could be used to like solve world problems — cure a disease or something, but no, instead they carry deathly diseases and irritated us to the point of swearing ourselves out of sailor status or keeping up to any sort of religious standards. The breed in water — which is another thing the world seems to be in a terrible need of.

Were these filthy things created created to make money? Think about it. I know it sounds so far fetched and that you must think I’m crazy, but just bare with me here. I watched a very interesting documentary a while back that focused on food in America, especially focusing on sugar and the impact it has on health issues, such as obesity and diabetes. I found it fascinating how companies and corporations that severe quite the opposite services are linked. Health institutions support the food industry — especially fast food chains. Why? Well, the food that is currently being sold to the human race is bad for us — fact! It is filled with artificial sugars and injected with all sorts of toxic poisons, essentially. All of this makes us sick and unhealthy — which means we will need three things: medicine — we need to treat ourselves with pills and drugs, weather it is for weight or health related issues. Then secondly there’s seeing a doctor — this is to determine what is wrong with us, some people need to go to the doctor regularly and after developing diabetes need to be put on expensive treatments. Lastly, operations. How many people become obese, children that grow up eating this junk that is sold to us. Then they get to a point where they need surgery — which can be life threatening. It’s all about money — fact. On a much smaller scale — so we can view mosquitos. Millions of dollars are made each year with the selling of sprays, pills, creams, nets, fans, etc. It truly is an actual industry when you start thinking about it — machines that are sold, medication, installation of nets and framework in front of windows and doors. I know it sounds ridiculously crazy, but think about it.

I am aware that getting rid of them for good is nearly impossible. No matter which way we swing it, it would impact the circle of life. Sure, they aren’t a critical part in the bigger picture, but they are eaten by birds and other animals — who would then also be poisoned. If we were to go there, ask the question: why did God create these decentness of flies, what would be discover? They serve absolutely no purpose in life, that has pretty much been established I would say. They can’t be prepared to something life a bee, which also stings us. Bees have a much larger purpose — they do so much more, they make honey and play a crucial part in pollination. Does God see them, mosquitos, as beautiful? I will never be able to answer that — probably. Well, I’m sorry God — the fact that they are “beautiful” doesn’t really help the case here. Shall we all sit and admire these little flying machines? Sit on the balcony with a glass of wine at night and wait for them to attack? I don’t mean to offend anyone, or mean this in a rude way, please don’t read this wrong.

The only good thing that has ever come from mosquitos was Jurassic Park. Whether or not they were ever meant to exist I don’t know. The only thing I know is that they irritate the living hell out of me. Then again — they have been around for so long, they probably fly to a human thinking, she/he doesn’t even go here! Well, mosquito, you try surviving without us!
